Malcolm Self
"Old Rusty"
Malcolm Self is a nice guy. I have a lot of time for him. His nickname is no reflection on his race car or the HGV truck he uses to bring his car to the race meetings with. It is the name painted on the side of the truck.
On the way to Dijon in the late 90's, Malcolm spotted a lady in distress at the roadside. He stopped & changed her flat tyre for her. He then brought her to the Spridget Café for a drink.
I think it says a lot for him that the lady came along even though he speaks no French & she spoke no English. He's that kind of guy. ( She was also stunningly good looking !)
Another example of his generosity is when we had a guest driver from "Cars & Car Conversions" ( A UK magazine), Malcolm gave his drive & car to the journalist, whom he had never met before. The car was returned complete & intact.
He is one of the real characters in the FISC paddock and after a bottle or two of red wine he's even funnier.
Malcolm's Cars
I say cars here because Malcolm has built at least 3 of the cars that regularly run in the FISC series. You can tell that they are/were Malcolms because they are all Ferrari red Frogeyes or Sebrings. He has been dabbling with 1000cc engined cars for a while but has been having reliability problems.
Malcolm makes most of his own pannels Frogeye/Sebring Front/rear/roof/door & even a Fibreglasss dashboard (see pic above).
I have included a few pictures of his cars because I find them particularly pretty. He made both the open & closed Sebring Sprite replicas shown above
